Why the gigabit passive optical network become the data submitted selection technology. In 2005, the FSAN (Full Service Access Network) organized the formulation of gigabit passive optical network (GPON) specification.

 

This specification establishes the cost-effective delivery process as well as the service quality of voice, data and video.

 

The gigabit passive optical network is a point to multipoint system. In this system, the TMD service is sent form the optical line terminal to the fiber optical splitter then finally to the ONU through the fibers.

 

The downlink bandwidth provided by GPON is two times the uplink bandwidth. The improvement in bandwidth efficiency is a major advantage of gigabit passive optical network. And it is also the reason for it to become the data submission selection technology.
